Video Center: Voices of Innovation
Voices of Innovation is a new series of conversations presented by the Rothman Institute at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Silberman College of Business. The program allows viewers to learn from industry leaders about best practices relating to innovation. With those insights, viewers can then understand how to successfully implement innovation at their workplaces. The series is hosted by James Barrood, Executive Director of the Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies.

Voices of Innovation:  Fred Hassan, Schering-Plough Corp.
Fred Hassan is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Schering-Plough Corporation. Prior to joining Schering-Plough in April 2003 and assuming his current position, Hassan was chairman and chief executive officer of Pharmacia Corporation. He joined the former Pharmacia & Upjohn in May 1997 as chief executive officer and was elected to the Board of Directors. In February 2001, Hassan was named chairman of the Board of Pharmacia, the company created through the merger of the former Monsanto and Pharmacia & Upjohn companies.

Previously, Hassan was executive vice president of Wyeth, formerly known as American Home Products, with responsibility for its pharmaceutical and medical products business. He was elected to Wyeth's Board of Directors in 1995. Earlier in his career, Hassan spent 17 years with Sandoz Pharmaceuticals (now Novartis) and headed its U.S. pharmaceuticals business.

Schering-Plough is an innovation-driven, science-centered global health care company. Through its own biopharmaceutical research and collaborations with partners, Schering-Plough creates therapies that help save and improve lives around the world. The company applies its research-and-development platform to human prescription and consumer products as well as to animal health products. In November 2007, Schering-Plough acquired Organon BioSciences, with its Organon human health and Intervet animal health businesses, marking a pivotal step in the company's ongoing transformation. Schering-Plough's vision is to "Earn Trust, Every Day" with the doctors, patients, customers and other stakeholders served by its approximately 50,000 people around the world. The company is based in Kenilworth, N.J.
