But that’s about the only piece of the game that was unknown until now. Here’s a look at how organizers and local leaders have spent more than a year covering all the bases ahead of the Feb. 2 game at MetLife Stadium:
Keeping the lights on: Its been a priority going back to the earliest stages of planning, but last year’s mid-game blackout in New Orleans — on the world’s biggest stage — shined a light on what state officials and Public Service Electric & Gas are doing to ensure redundancy.
Fact-finding: Business leaders in New Jersey have traveled to the last few Super Bowls in hopes of learning how to help their state reap the economic benefits. It turns out there are some opportunities and strategies that translate from New Orleans to the Meadowlands.
Spreading the work: As it does in other cities, the 2014 host committee has worked to help small minority- and woman-owned businesses in New Jersey win contracts for services tied to the big game.
Warming up: WWE’s WrestleMania took over MetLife Stadium last spring. For state officials and other stakeholders, it was a chance to warm up for the Super Bowl with another event that draws tens of thousands of fans and has a week of events.
Meadowlands makeover: Major changes are underway to help the Meadowlands Sports Complex stage the big game. We have the full breakdown.
Looking for the edge: With New Jersey sharing the economic windfall with New York City, businesses are looking for an advantage by shedding the state’s “tough guy” image.
