Mitsui Seiki Kogyo Ltd., the parent company of Mitsui Seiki USA Inc., promoted Hiroyuki “Roy” Kawakami to president and CEO, according to a June 29 announcement.
Since joining the manufacturer in 1981, Kawakami has served in various sales and management positions at the company’s U.S. headquarters in Franklin Lakes, including being named vice president in 1994 and chairman in 2003.

Kawakami
Kawakami moved back to the Japan headquarters in 2006 and has held several senior executive positions at Mitsui Seiki Kogyo since then, most recently as senior managing director.
In his new role leading the parent company, he will also work closely with executives in Franklin Lakes, including the chairman and chief of operations, a representative confirmed with NJBIZ.
In a statement, Kawakami said he was honored to lead the company “during this exciting time in manufacturing.”
Mitsui Seiki offers metal-cutting machines such as jig boring machines, grinders, horizontal and vertical machining centers and five-axis machining centers.
“The technology is evolving quickly, and the industrial revolution surrounding automation and software is particularly interesting and challenging,” Kawakami said, adding the company will continue to build CNC machine tools while also catering to customers who are looking for the “automation and data connection architecture that is driving the industry.”
