Biz BriefsMcCarter & English, which is based in Newark and has offices in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut and Maryland, is broadening its reach. Last week the 370-attorney law firm announced what its chairman, Drew Berry, calls Âa combination with Gadsby Hannah, a 65-lawyer Boston. The new entity will operate under the McCarter & English name and Len Lewin, Gadsby Hannah”s current chairman, will join McCarter”s executive committee.
The deal, which is expected to close by June 1, is the largest ever for McCarter & English. Financial terms weren”t released, but Berry tells NJBIZ that ÂMcCarter & English did not pay a bounty above the value of the business being received.Â
Berry says he doesn”t expect to lose any clients as a result of the deal. ÂThere were very few potential client conflicts, and we expect those to be solved with waivers, he says. He adds that other combinations may be in the works. ÂCurrently, we”re looking at the Washington, D.C., area for future opportunities, he says.
