An announcement could come as early as today, according to the people who spoke with the Post on the condition of anonymity.
An Amazon.com spokesman declined to comment.
Newark was one of the finalists for the so-called HQ2. Mayor Ras Baraka said last week he had not received any official notice from Amazon that his city was no longer in the running. He and Gov. Phil Murphy at the time called reports Amazon had chosen Crystal City and Long Island City, N.Y., speculative. The Wall Street Journal was the first media outlet to report Amazon’s decision.
The company had said it would make a decision on the project this year.
Amazon launched the HQ2 project last fall, issuing search criteria for “a second corporate headquarters” with as many as 50,000 jobs and an investment of $5 billion.
