American Water announced Thursday it has named Robert MacLean president of New Jersey American Water and senior vice president of its Eastern division, effective March 1.
MacLean will replace William Varley, who was recently appointed senior vice president of American Water’s Midwest division.
“We are so pleased to bring Rob back to New Jersey and proud of all the work Bill has accomplished during his time leading New Jersey American Water,” Walter Lynch, American Water’s chief operating officer, said in a prepared statement. “With more than 20 years of experience in the water business, Rob is 100 percent committed to excellent customer service, and I know he will bring that passion to our customers in the Garden State. His past experience working in New Jersey makes him a great fit for this new role.”
MacLean was president of California American Water since 2009 and president of Hawaii American water since 2011. He joined American Water in 1999.
Prior to his current position, he was director of field operations for New Jersey American Water. Before that, he was in various other roles within the American Water company.
