An addiction to work, but Norcross can let his hair down #8212 or shave it off

George E. Norcross III normally starts his at day 4 or 4:30 a.m., which is when he begins e-mailing — and even calling — people. He admits to having an addiction to his work.

“I certainly don’t work 9 to 5, but I bring a lot of this on myself, without a doubt, I think in large part because I have difficulty dealing with things outside of perfection,” he said. “And that’s a problem. That’s a problem. And it could very well be my greatest asset as well as my greatest liability because my expectations are unrealistically too high at times for things.”

But Norcross is willing to look less than perfect when his children are involved.

Main story: From college dropout to business powerhouse

An avid Eagles fan, Norcross went all out for the 2004 Super Bowl and NFC Championship games with his son, Alex Norcross.

“I spraypainted my hair green. My whole face was green, black and silver,” Norcross recalled. “We walked into the Commerce Bank superbox — nobody knew who I was. I’m not kidding you. They didn’t know who I was. It took me hours to get that stuff out of my hair — hours.”

Another time, when his daughter, Lexie Norcross, was reluctant to wear braces, Norcross got braces as a way to convince her. When Alex wanted father and son to shave their heads, Norcross did it, shearing his signature hair down to almost nothing. As he confirmed these stories, Norcross clearly relished recalling the reaction he got.

“I remember going into Commerce Bank and people looking at me, like being dazed,” he said about the buzz cut. “I just did it because I knew if I thought about it I wouldn’t do it.”
