Atlantic Health System announced today it has entered into a partnership with QualCare Inc., New Jersey’s largest provider-sponsored managed-care company, giving Atlantic’s three hospitals access to QualCare’s management services.

Atlantic CEO Joseph A. Trunfio said the deal was motivated by a strong sense of shared mission between the two companies, as it “enables us to collaborate with other leading health care providers in delivering high-quality health services.”

Atlantic Health System, which includes Morristown, Overlook and Newton medical centers, now joins 13 other New Jersey hospital systems and physician organizations as owners of QualCare, which serves more than 750,000 members with a full range of self-insured health and workers’ compensation and liability products.

“We are proud to be associated with Atlantic Health System and its network of world-renowned medical professionals,” said Annette Catino, president and CEO of QualCare. “Joseph Trunfio and his team lend another leading voice in health care to our strategic partnership, and they share our commitment to patient-oriented care. We are excited by what we can achieve together.”

Catino said Atlantic will now have access to the administrative services and care management services QualCare offers in the marketplace. The partnership also gives Atlantic Health System the ability to collaborate with the other hospital systems associated with QualCare.

“Atlantic Health System is a well-regarded and respected institution in New Jersey,” Catino said. “I am thrilled that we will be working with and for them.”

Atlantic Health System recently announced plans to launch an accountable-care organization, which will work toward changing the delivery model for Medicare subscribers in northwestern New Jersey. Integral to this plan is working with a payer who has the infrastructure and platform to provide Atlantic and its physician partners the data needed to manage the cost of care, and monitor the quality of service delivery.

Trunfio, along with Dr. David Shulkin, president of Morristown Medical Center and vice president of Atlantic Health System, have been appointed to QualCare’s board of directors.
