Atlantic Health System, which operates the Morristown, Overlook and Newton Medical Centers, said its contract with health insurer AmeriHealth expired July 1 “due to an inability to come to a mutual agreement regarding rates. At this time, there are no ongoing negotiations between Atlantic Health System and AmeriHealth.”
Although the contract expired July 1, it remains in effect during a grace period through Nov. 1. AmeriHealth policyholders will continue to have in-network access at Newton Medical Center, due to a separate contract that pre-dated Newton’s merger with Atlantic Health System this spring, according to Atlantic health. Newton’s contract with AmeriHealth runs through 2012.
Atlantic Health said AmeriHealth HMO and PPO policyholders will continue to have in-network access to services at Morristown and Overlook through Nov. 1. “Beyond that date, patients with AmeriHealth PPO coverage will have out-of-network access to both hospitals, and all AmeriHealth patients will continue to be covered for emergency services,” Atlantic Health said.
AmeriHealth has said it hopes to reach a new contract with Atlantic before Nov. 1 that would keep all three Atlantic Health hospitals in the AmeriHealth network.
