Atlantic Health System opened its newly constructed ambulatory surgery center at the Morristown Medical Center Health Pavilion (ASCR) in Rockaway, the health care provider announced Nov. 4.
Located at 333 Mount Hope Ave., the 15,000-square-foot facility includes four operating rooms, 15 pre-operative and post-anesthesia care unit bays along with the latest technology, equipment, instrumentation and hospital grade sterilization, AHS said.
Ambulatory surgical centers are outpatient facilities that provide same-day surgical procedures, including preventative and diagnostic care.
ASCR offers operative services including: orthopedics, podiatry, plastics, general, ENT, vascular, gynecology, breast and urological surgeries. Endoscopic services, such as colonoscopies, are also available.
Located on the third floor, the new facility has a reinforced floor system to meet standards for operating room vibrations. There is also a new rooftop air handler and emergency generator.
According to a February report from Fortune Business Insights, the U.S. market size for ambulatory surgical centers is estimated to reach $58.85 billion by 2028. In 2020, market value hit $34.75 billion, increasing to $36.96 billion the next year.
Among the tech advancements available at ASCR is non-invasive prostate tissue ablation.
Performed with Focal One, Atlantic said, it is the first and only robotic platform to employ high-performance, high-intensity focused ultrasound technology, allowing urologists to control targeting and destruction of the prostate while sparing healthy surrounding tissue and minimizing side effects.
Atlantic Health described the ASCR as a warm and inviting space, for both patients and for employees. The open environment features ample natural light and an interior design that “blends fresh, dynamic finishes with neutral wood tones and crisp soft accents.”
The Pavilion opened in 2016. And, the ASCR has been in the works since the health system purchased the Rockaway property for $26 million in 2019.
According to a statement from Pam Mestel, executive director, Surgical Services at Morristown Medical Center, the opening marks an important and strategic step amid the system’s continued growth. Earlier this year, it acquired 7 Immediate Care locations and several Coordinated Health facilities, as well.
“We are so proud of this brand-new facility that offers patients high-quality surgical services and exemplary care, with the added convenience of having surgeries and procedures performed safely outside the hospital setting,” she said.
