Avison Young has bolstered its project management team in New Jersey, and its newest hire is spearheading upgrades that could lead to major improvements at the U.S. Golf Association’s headquarters campus in Far Hills.
The brokerage firm’s Morristown office has hired Gabriel Sasso as a vice president of project management. Coming from The Gale Construction Co., Sasso brings with him a relationship with the USGA that’s helped Avison land a contract to replace the heating and cooling plants at the organization’s administration building.
Sasso oversaw a renovation and expansion of the USGA’s museum in Bernards around 2006, Sasso said. And last year, he helped the organization develop a budget for a long-term improvement plan for the roughly 100,000-square-foot Far Hills building, which will start with new mechanical upgrades.
“It’s the first in a number of campus-wide, master-planned items that they hope to do,” he said, noting the new heating and cooling systems plants are designed to handle future expansion. The heating portion is scheduled to be operational by October, while the cooling plant will be replaced during the winter, he said.
Avison announced the USGA assignment this week in conjunction with news of Sasso’s hiring. With 30 years in the construction industry, Sasso joins the Canadian brokerage firm that has expanded quickly on the East Coast while boosting its project management credentials. Soon after opening its New Jersey office last fall, Avison acquired The Walsh Co., the Morristown-based project management firm that’s handled many of the state’s high-profile development projects in recent years.
The firm’s focus on project management and owner and tenant representation also is a good fit for Sasso, who has worked with both sides, managed all phases of construction, and supervised consultants during development, he said.
“I’ve done pretty much everything in the process over the years, so I think a platform like AY’s allows me to fit wherever the need arises,” Sasso said.
