Bed Bath & Beyond is closing two New Jersey stores.
Stores in Newton, located at 17 Hampton House Road, and in Sewell, at 141 Tuckahoe Road, will shutter their doors this year.
The stores no longer meet company standards, according to spokesperson Jessica Joyce.
“We’re continually evolving to serve our loyal Bed Bath & Beyond customers better – whether they come to us at one of our 900+ stores or are one of the millions who shop with us online each year,” said Joyce via email. “We’re giving our most popular stores a multi-million dollar face lift and continually investing in our digital platform to give customers an even better shopping experience in store or at home.”
The closures in Newton and Sewell come after a sales during a key holiday shopping period fell short of plan.
“Our performance in the third quarter was unsatisfactory and underscores the imperative for change and strengthens our sense of priorities and purpose,” said Chief Executive Officer Mark Tritton in a statement. “We must respond to the challenges we face as a business, including pressured sales and profitability, and reconstruct a modern, durable model for long-term profitable growth.”
The company will be finalizing its strategic plan in the upcoming months.
