The Senate Economic Growth Committee unanimously voted to release the bill, which would publish the location and contact information for every licensed winery in the state. It now heads to the full Senate for a vote.
Ed Wengryn, field representative and research associate for the New Jersey Farm Bureau testified before the panel that as it stands currently, all of the information that the bill would require is already available on JerseyFresh.nj.gov, a companion site also run by the department.
Wengryn, who voiced his support for the intent of the bill, said that the bureau is currently working with the department to make the winery directory more visible and easier to access through its website.
“It is there,” Wengryn said of the information. “We’re working with the department on it.”
The bill was passed with unanimous support in the Assembly back in May.
