Budd Larner will close its doors in July, a source told the New Jersey Law Journal Friday.
The Short Hills law firm has been beleaguered by departure after departure in the last year, including 19 intellectual property lawyers and professionals that moved to Windels Marx in April.
“We are sad to announce that after 85 years of servicing clients and contributing towards shaping New Jersey’s legal landscape, Budd Larner will be ceasing operations in July. Many great relationships were forged by our attorneys and staff while at Budd Larner which we look forward to maintaining in the future,” executive committee members Peter Frazza and Susan Winters told the Law Journal via email.
The firm told the Law Journal they would not comment any further.
Budd Larner PC had the biggest decline of the year on the NJBIZ Law Firms list in March, falling 13 spots from 23 to 36 with the loss of 20 attorneys.
Former managing partner and executive committee member Joseph Schiavone joined Saiber LLC’s insurance and reinsurance group in Sept. 2018, telling NJBIZ at the time, “I’d been at Budd Larner for more than 30 years and too many callouses developed over the years that it was time for me to go,” Schiavone said. “It’s not something that somebody does lightly, but I was ready for a change and I knew the people at Saiber very well.”
