After 15 years at the helm of the Carrier Clinic behavioral health care system, C. Richard Sarle is retiring as president and CEO.

Sarle is leaving as the system, based in the Belle Mead section of Montgomery, embarks on a new strategic plan for its 281-bed inpatient psychiatric hospital, 32-bed detoxifications and rehabilitation center, 78-bed adolescent resident facility, and high and middle schools.

“Carrier has never been stronger,” Sarle said in an announcement. “I prepare to leave knowing that Carrier is positioned with a solid strategic plan that will move Carrier into the next decade. I believe that this provides the right timing to pass the baton to the right successor.”

According to the announcement, the system’s board chairman, Thomas G. Amato, has formed a search committee for the next leader of the system. Sarle’s retirement takes effect Dec. 31.
