Chief financial officer and treasurer, Panasonic Corp. of North America

As CFO and treasurer, I am responsible for the financial and operational management of Panasonic Corporation of North America. I will also continue to lead the relocation of our headquarters operations to Newark this year.

Goals: My main goal is to support the corporate transformation direction, ensuring a smooth transition as the company focuses more on business-to-business solutions and sales.

Previous jobs: I have been with Panasonic for the past 26 years, and have worked in many capacities within different business units in terms of financial management and IT system implementations. Most recently, I was the company’s vice president and controller.

Key strengths: I have been fortunate to have a strong background of both practical and educational experience. Developing a team concept and understanding takes leadership of the team, so I believe one of my key strengths is my ability to execute and get things done. Also, I understand that a team’s effort is an essential part of completing projects, and I have learned to be the best leader I can be through team mentoring.

Career high: Being named the first American CFO of Panasonic Corp. of North America.

Next: I will ensure that my former responsibilities are handed over smoothly, and then will dive in where the previous CFO left off, in terms of the company’s transformation.

Challenges: In terms of Panasonic’s transformation project, change will be a challenge. Change is always a potential challenge, so I plan to make sure that the strategy is clear and understood, communicate the message well and ensure that all team members are aligned.

After hours: Spending time and traveling with my wife and children; watching sports, especially football and hockey; and staying physically active are all things that I enjoy doing.

Executive Moves


DeVito, Snowden & Co. LLC announced two members of the firm have been promoted to the position of partner:

  • Barbara Bessemer is an expert in the fields of accounting and auditing, with more than 30 years of experience. She graduated from Montclair State University, where she earned a B.S. in accounting.
  • James L. Massarelli is an expert in the field of taxation with more than 30 years of experience. He graduated from Rutgers University, where he earned a B.A. in accounting. He earned his M.S. in taxation at Fairleigh Dickinson University.


Robert R. Bender has been promoted to senior vice president and chief lending officer of Audubon Savings Bank. Bender has served as ASB vice president and commercial lending officer since June 2010, when he joined the bank. Bender earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Richard Stockton College. Earlier in his career, Bender held a variety of executive positions with other major banking institutions in South Jersey, including vice president and business banking relationship manager for Sun National Bank, and senior vice president and commercial relationship manager for Cornerstone Bank.


Proterro Inc., in Ewing, has added Edi Eliezer to its executive team as the company’s engineering vice president. Eliezer joins Proterro with three decades in industrial bioengineering, with expertise in biochemicals and biofuels. Among the companies at which Eliezer has held positions are Fluor Corp., where he was director of bioprocess technology and engineering; DuPont Tate & Lyle BioProducts, where he was vice president of technology R&D; and Abbott Laboratories, where he was process development lead and manufacturing engineer for the chemicals, agricultural and pharma businesses. Eliezer earned an M.S. in applied industrial microbiology from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel, and a B.S. in biochemical engineering from the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées in Toulouse, France.

Health Care

Dr. Alexandra C. Caracitas has joined the Raritan Bay Physicians’ Group LLC. She is relocating from South River, where she had practiced family medicine since 2007. Caracitas completed her residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – Kennedy Health System and Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, in Camden. She received her doctorate of osteopathic medicine from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine, in Stratford.


Christina L. Saveriano, a member of Hill Wallack LLP’s complex litigation and employment and labor law practice groups, has been promoted to counsel of the firm. She received her law degree from the Pennsylvania State University, Dickinson School of Law, and is a graduate of Rowan University.


The Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey has announced the selection of Staci Berger as its new executive director. Berger has served as the network’s director of policy and advocacy since 2005. Prior to joining the network, Berger worked for nine years with New Jersey Citizen Action, where she went from being an organizer to the political and legislative director. She received her master’s in public affairs and politics from Rutgers University, where she also completed her undergraduate degree.


The New Jersey section of the PGA of America announced two executive changes:

  • Chris Bauer has been named executive director. Bauer most recently served as the section’s director of operations. Bauer is a graduate of Rutgers University and started with the NJPGA as a collegiate intern. He began as a full-time employee serving as tournament administrator and working into the position of director of operations.
  • Chris Hunt, the current assistant executive director, has been tapped to serve as the new director of operations. Hunt, a former collegiate golfer and a graduate of Elon College, started with the NJPGA as a collegiate intern, as well. Hunt was hired as the full-time junior golf coordinator, eventually becoming the section’s tournament administrator.


Labor Sync announced Jason Gaines has joined the firm as the new business relationship manager. Gaines’ professional career spans more than 16 years of sales and marketing, focused on financial services. Prior to his new role at Labor Sync, Gaines worked with Silver Fin Capital Group and JHG Enterprises.
