Outages involving Comcast and Xfinity TV and internet services were being reported across the U.S. on Friday afternoon, with significant parts of the Northeast, Southeast and mid-Atlantic among the hardest hit.
An outage map on the website downdetector.com showed a wide swath of New Jersey and Pennsylvania reporting disruptions in service.
KYW-TV, the CBS-owned station in Philadelphia, reported the outage is primarily affecting cable service but some telephone and internet service is also said to be out. It wasn’t clear what caused the outages.
Company representatives were not immediately available for comment, but Comcast did issue the following statement at 1:31 p.m. via Twitter:
“We are aware and working to restore service as quickly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
