Consulting firm Slalom to bring 350 jobs to New Jersey

Seattle-based Slalom, a $1.6 billion consulting firm focused on strategy, technology and business transformation, announced Tuesday the opening of its newest office in New Jersey bringing more than 350 jobs to the Garden State over the next several years.

Slalom employees are currently working in Morristown on a temporary basis. The company is preparing to move employees to New Brunswick on a permanent basis, Jeff Van Wie, Slalom general manager for New Jersey, told NJBIZ.

“We are focusing on pharmaceutical clients and insurance clients, and retail will be our main focus in those areas,” Van Wie said. “We help our clients leverage technology to help them improve their bottom line, reinvent their businesses, and help them achieve their business outcomes.”

Slalom currently has 120 employees working in New Jersey including 25 employees who joined in the last month. “That is actually ahead of our plan of where we thought we would be,” Van Wie said. “Our plan is to add 100 consultants each year. By having an office that is designated and located in New Jersey, we think we will attract more people who will want to live and work in New Jersey versus metropolitan New York. We are also messaging to our clients that we have an office in New Jersey. We are here to service you. Our consultants, unlike some of our competitors are at work and are part of the fabric of New Jersey.”

Jose Lozano

“On behalf of the New Jersey business community, Choose New Jersey would like to welcome Slalom to our great state,” Jose Lozano, president and chief executive officer of Choose New Jersey, said in a statement. “This move demonstrates that New Jersey continues to be a premier place for leading businesses with all the assets – and accessibility – any forward-thinking company needs. We are home to one of the most highly educated workforces in the U.S. and a business located in central New Jersey can serve more than 22 million consumers.”

“Slalom’s expansion allows us to provide a deeper level of service to our New Jersey clients by hiring the state’s top talent,” Troy Johnson, Slalom chief growth officer and co-founder said in a statement. “Our model is to hire locally. In over 35 cities around the world, Slalom teams have the autonomy to move fast and do what’s right for our clients, making us more personal and nimbler than traditional consulting firms.”

Slalom was founded in Seattle in 2001. Slalom’s clients include more than half the Fortune 100 and a third of the Fortune 500—along with startups, not-for-profits, and innovative organizations of all kinds. Along with Slalom’s newest office, the company currently employs 7,500 people globally and will continue its rapid growth throughout 2020.
