THE COOL FACTOR

There might not be a more impressive view in the entirety of the state than the employees of Mack-Cali have every day at Harborside 3 at 210 Hudson St. in Jersey City, situated on the Hudson Waterfront across from downtown Manhattan.

And despite the fact that the office is outfitted with enough windows that workers would have to keep a blindfold on to miss their breathtaking view (it’s unobstructed from just about anywhere in the space), it’s the bright and contemporary interior of the company’s headquarters that really ups its coolness factor.

It features a clean, simple look with polished concrete floors, custom wood details and starkly white walls and furnishings. Individual offices also feature adjustable standing desk components, dual computer monitors and light, modern furniture. But there are also some exposed columns that allude to the history of the otherwise brand-new-looking building, which was originally constructed in 1929 for the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Throughout the office, employees as well as guests are welcome to take advantage of lounge areas with complimentary espresso machines and a sleek communal dining area. The company thinks highly of keeping its employees fueled — offering free healthy snacks in bowls scattered generously in the space, on top of a packed pantry.

There were almost 50 employees that Mack-Cali had to fit into its headquarters. To keep those workers productive (and happy), the company looked to emphasize maintaining their personal space while still allowing for easy communication between employees. Every employee is afforded a large personal workstation for quiet work activities with an open concept that connects people visually, so that people can quickly link up with non-verbal cues.

The office, which Mack-Cali moved into in August 2016, is a stellar location — with the skyline right outside to prove it. Considering that and all of the amenities that come with it, the office is a hit with employees.

THE BUSINESS CASE

The location also works wonders for Mack-Cali as it continues to invest millions into projects within the Hudson Waterfront area, including properties in Weehawken, Hoboken and West New York.
Having those areas as the stomping grounds for the business and its employees makes the sort of mass transit accessibility that its Jersey City base offers a huge advantage.
