New orders boosts third quarter results.

Curtiss-Wright (NYSE: CW) reported net income of $17.5 million on revenue of $271.4 million for the third quarter ended September 30, compared with net income of $14.7 million on revenue of $236.6 million for the same period last year. The Roseland-based designer and manufacturer generated net income of $50 million on revenue of $813 million for the nine months ending September 30, compared with net income of $44.7 million on revenue of $674 million for the same period last year.
The company, which does metal treatments and other work for defense contracts, said new orders increased 16% to $277.2 million in the third quarter over the previous year. For the first nine months of 2005, new orders jumped 30% to $888 million over the same period the previous
year.
Shares of Curtiss-Wright were up $0.98 to $56.55 in morning trading.
