Capital BriefsIndependent candidate for governor Chris Daggett said he will strike a balance between economic development and environmental protection at an event where he received an endorsement from the stateÂs Sierra Club.
Daggett, a former state environmental protection commissioner, said he would work to ensure businesses receive environmental decisions in a timely manner.
ÂIf youÂre an investor, time is money, Daggett said.
Daggett also said there should be an emphasis on redeveloping urban and other areas where mass transit is convenient.
Daggett shares the Sierra ClubÂs view that the state should have a dedicated source of funding for open space. The organization opposes a $400 million open space referendum on the ballot in November.
New Jersey Sierra Club Director Jeff Tittel said there was no conflict between the economy and the environment, adding that efforts like green energy investments are good for both.
