IBM opened two computer learning centers for children in Newark on Thursday from a grant awarded under United Way of Essex and West Hudson, as part of the company’s $4.3 million nationwide initiative to provide 1,700 centers and teaching curricula to schools servicing disadvantaged youth.
Boingo Wireless Inc., a Wi-Fi software provider, announced Thursday an agreement with Westfield LLC, the U.S. unit of the Westfield Group, to manage Wi-Fi services at up to 17 Westfield shopping centers, including the Westfield Garden State Plaza, in Paramus. Shoppers will be able to access Boingo Wi-Fi on their smartphones, tablets and laptops for free, and the networks will be accessible to customers of Skype and Verizon.

Craft Oil Corp., an oil lubricant and equipment distributor based in Avoca, Pa., announced today the acquisition of Neslo Petroleum Products Inc., an authorized Shell Oil Co. distributor in Fords. Craft Oil’s New Jersey operation will relocate to the current Neslo facilities.

New Jersey American Water, in Voorhees, announced Thursday plans to install solar fields that will make the company more cost efficient and reduce the carbon footprint needed to deliver water to customers at two of its water filtration facilities. The company and its contractor, Eneractive Solutions, in Asbury Park, are building a $7.7 million solar field of 3,565 panels that will produce 1.2 million kilowatt hours per year.
