Pediatric partnership; Toys for tots; high-Calibr research.
Hackensack University Medical Center announced Wednesday its new clinical affiliation with Palisades Medical Center, in North Bergen. The affiliation will focus on services in the neonatal nursery care, and pediatric cardiology ultrasound and echocardiography reading.
The organizing committee of the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games and Toys R Us announced Thursday a $1 million commitment from the Toys R Us Children’s Fund, making the Wayne-based retailer the first founding partner of the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games, hosted in Mercer County. Toys R Us also will be the presenting sponsor of the Young Athletes Festival.
Merck & Co., in the Whitehouse Station section of Readington, announced Thursday a collaboration to create the California Institute for Biomedical Research, or Calibr, an independent, not-for-profit organization established to accelerate the translation of biomedical research into new medicines. Merck will provide funding to Calibr of up to $90 million over a period of seven years, and has an option to obtain an exclusive commercial license to any proteins or small molecule therapeutic candidates derived from Calibr.
