You’re sitting at the New Jersey Devils game enjoying your drink and then it finally happens: There you are on the giant scoreboard. But the moment is fleeting, and gone in an instant.Never fear: The Devils and Prudential Center announced they have reached an agreement with tech company 15 Seconds of Fame that will make the hockey team the first in the NHL to offer fans the company’s revolutionary in-arena personal video technology and social media app, just in time for the 2016-17 hockey season.
“This is an opportunity for technology to enhance the human experience,” said Daniel Cherry, chief marketing and innovation officer with the Devils. “To me, this is an opportunity for folks to actually engage in the moment and allow technology to support the memories and be the repository I think it should be in the cloud-based economy.”
Fans who appear on Prudential Center’s videoboard during Devils games, starting at opening night Oct. 18 versus the Anaheim Ducks, will be able to instantly receive their personalized video clip on their mobile device and share it on various social media platforms. Users can simply download the 15SOF app using iTunes or Google Play and take a selfie to register.
Cherry said the main goal of this technology is to enhance the fan experience.
“That’s the first and foremost: The more smiles you generate, the better it is for your business,” he said. “So, the first question is, ‘Are you giving the fans what they want both on and off the ice?’”
Cherry said the goal is to engage fans by providing them with sharable content. It’s a win/win situation, he said, since that also allows the team to further engage its fans and garner visibility on social media.
“For us, anything that gets people to engage and drive what we call ‘tune-in,’ will ultimately help our business,” he said.
Cherry said the Devils were the first NHL team to pilot the technology, during the 2015-16 regular season finale at The Rock in April.
“The Devils and Prudential Center are consistently on the cutting edge of technology integration, with the goal of creating an amazing fan experience each night,” Cherry said. “We are thrilled to partner with 15SOF to be the first hockey team to give fans a new way to consume and share once-in-a-lifetime Devils moments.”
