Edison Properties on Friday said Halal Guys and Oren’s Daily Roast are the first two retail tenants to sign at Ironside Newark, joining the city’s burgeoning dining scene. Edison Properties also expects to announce additional retail tenants in the coming months.
Jason Pierson and Ryan Starkman of Pierson Commercial represented Edison in both transactions.
The completely modernized former warehouse building is situated directly adjacent to Newark Penn Station. The ground-floor retail, fronts on Edison Place, and with the opening of Mulberry Commons Park, which awakened three acres of green space and provides a critical link between Newark Penn Station and the Prudential Center, Ironside has become a popular destination in Newark.
Oren’s, an acclaimed NYC coffee shop, will utilize 2,012 square feet of space that is its first location outside of New York City. Halal Guys is a successful international food chain and the 1,294 square feet it plans to occupy will be its second outpost in the city, joining a location on Halsey Street opened in 2017. Both are expected to open during the first quarter of 2020.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Oren’s Daily Roast and Halal Guys as Ironside Newark’s first retail tenants. The arrival of a storied New York City coffee shop and an internationally recognized Halal food restaurant represent the next phase in Newark’s evolution into not just a city with a thriving office market, but also a dining and cultural scene that rival any in the region,” said Lenny Lazzarino, Edison Properties’ executive vice president of leasing. “Both of these tenants will add to the city’s already rich list of culinary destinations downtown, in the Ironbound and beyond. We look forward to each of them opening their doors in the near future and further solidifying Ironside Newark’s place at the center of the city’s ongoing renaissance.”
Designed by the renowned New York City-based design and architecture firm Perkins Eastman, the building will include 456,000 square feet of modern loft-style and penthouse offices with access to a rooftop featuring green space and views of both Newark and Manhattan.
