“As the applications of fuel cell technology continue to grow, we are looking at an ever-increasing capacity to shift away from fossil fuels and toward better, cleaner power sources," the sponsors of the legislation said in a statement. "By creating a central task force comprised of cross-sector experts, this measure takes the first step in accelerating New Jersey’s implementation of fuel cell technologies."

The utility will upgrade infrastructure in three cities across Monmouth and Somerset counties.

The measure would require certain additional requirements for new facilities or expansions to properties within "burdened communities."

The utility's latest infrastructure project will invest $1.8 million.
