Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. announced in a recent news release that it will lay off 55 employees at a Passaic distribution center and 325 workers from its manufacturing facility in Old Fort, N.C.

The operations at the Company’s 250,000-square-foot Passaic facility will be moved to its operations in North Carolina. Art framing operations will be outsourced.

The Connecticut-based furniture manufacturer says the Old Fort plant will be converted to a distribution center. It will keep its lumber processing facility there while about half its case goods manufacturing will be consolidated at two plants in Vermont.

“These decisions are not easy, especially as they affect approximately 325 of our associates in Old Fort, N.C. and 55 associates in Passaic, N.J. I have had a personal close association with many of these associates for about forty years. They leave a legacy of fine artisanry, safety, and manufacturing leadership,” said Farooq Kathwari, Ethan Allen’s chairman, president and chief executive officer in a prepared statement.
