FAA giving 18.6M to N.J. airports for repairs, construction

Atlantic City International and Trenton-Mercer are among the biggest recipients, according to New Jersey’s U.S. senators.According to an announcement from U.S. Sens. Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez, a total of $18.6 million in Federal Aviation Administration funding was awarded to five New Jersey airports, including more than $1 million for Atlantic City and nearly $13.5 million for Trenton-Mercer Airport.

“New Jersey is a major transportation hub, and this funding will help us welcome tourists, accommodate business travelers and strengthen our economy,” said Lautenberg (D-Cliffside Park), a member of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee that funds the FAA, in prepared remarks.

Per the senators’ announcement, the following airports will be awarded FAA grants:

– Trenton-Mercer will get $13.3 million for protective technology to make two runways safer, and $120,000 to conduct a wildlife hazard assessment.

– Robert J. Miller Air Park, in Toms River, will get $4 million for a new runway.

– Atlantic City International will get $765,000 for a new aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle, and $300,000 to evaluate environmental issues related to the installation of a new perimeter fence.

– Essex County Airport will get $110,000 to conduct a wildlife hazard assessment.

– Linden Airport will get $36,000 for a runway rehabilitation project.
