A Fairview-based custom decorating company has announced it is closing at the end of November, putting 98 people out of work.A.Q.L. Decorating Co. Inc., which has been in operation since 1966, said in a statement on its website:
“A.Q.L. Decorating Co. Inc. has made the difficult decision to close its business. The closing is scheduled to occur on Nov. 28, 2016. This was an extraordinarily difficult decision, as AQL has been in existence since 1966 and has been a premier decorating company. AQL has determined that the competing demands of operating in this area are insurmountable, and thus a closure of its business is necessary.”
The firm filed a federal WARN notice with the state Department of Labor and Workforce Development indicating that 98 workers face layoffs, including operators, packers, managers and others.
The company, which became part of Union-based O.Berk Company’s family of companies in 2008, is based in a 43,500-square-foot facility at 215 Bergen Blvd.
“AQL is making this announcement several months in advance as part of its commitment to make the transition for its customers as smooth as possible,” the company statement said. “The company is thankful for the service of its employees and this decision is not a reflection of their dedication and contributions. AQL is also greatly appreciative of the wonderful customer relationships that have been developed over the decades in business.”
