Jamie Fox, the recently appointed commissioner of the state Department of Transportation, said Wednesday as part of a panel at the League of Municipalities conference in Atlantic City that fixing the beleaguered Transportation Trust Fund is an issue that needs to be effectively addressed.“I think it’s too important for us to fail,” Fox said.
Speaking to a roomful of mayors, Fox stressed the need for collective input, asking them to “engage with me in a great debate on transportation.”

Fox said a replenished Transportation Trust Fund would help to fund things like double-decker train cars and much needed renovations to roads in the state, similar to what was recently seen with the New Jersey Turnpike project.
“We need to do that across the state,” Fox said.
While it’s still unclear as to what the eventual revenue-generating plan will end up looking like, Fox said it’s important that the funds are dedicated.
“Whatever revenue enhancer we come up with, the public is going to want to know that we’re not wasting money,” Fox said.
