GenScript Biotech expands China production facility

GenScript Biotech Corp. has expanded its research capabilities overseas with a new life sciences facility in China, the Piscataway-headquartered company announced May 18. 

Located in the city of Zhenjiang in China’s Jiangsu Province, the 91,310-square-foot building houses the company’s oligonucleotide and peptide production. It features highly automated clean-room facilities, offering fast turnaround and high-purity synthesis service for R&D and preclinical applications, GenScript said. 

“GenScript’s new site in Zhenjiang is poised to offer unparalleled support and address the increasing demand for oligonucleotide and peptide synthesis — serving the areas such as molecular diagnostics, RNA and peptide drug development, vaccine development, gene editing by providing faster, more reliable, and more cost-effective solutions via our cutting-edge platforms at different scales,” Ray Chen, president of GenScript’s Life Science Group, said in a statement. 

The company said the expanded oligonucleotide synthesis capability supports a wide range of applications — from molecular diagnostics and RNAi to genome editing.

Additionally, the expansion builds on GenScript’s “industry-leading” peptide services, which – by using its proprietary PepPower peptide synthesis platform – has been offering high-quality custom peptides and peptide libraries with 100% guaranteed quantity in as quickly as five days to its customers. 

The newly expanded production lines enable GenScript to deliver up to 30,000 peptides per month, supporting researchers in areas from peptide drug and vaccine development to functional screening and neoantigen discovery. 

Founded in 2002, GenScript Biotech’s operations now span more than 100 countries and serve over 200,000 customers. As of Dec. 31, 2022, the company had more than 6,000 employees worldwide.
