Jessica Perry//April 9, 2015

Georgian Court University announced Thursday it has appointed Joseph R. Marbach as the school’s new president. The appointment is notable as Marbach will be the first male and first lay president in the Lakewood-based school’s 107-year history. The school itself became entirely co-education in the fall of 2013.

Marbach, will succeed Rosemary Jeffries, who will step down after serving 14 years as GCU president.

Lardieri-Wright, GCU board of trustees’ chair, described Marbach as an “entrepreneurial-minded administrator” in a prepared statement.

“This is especially important as we continue to build a regional university that meets the needs of students and successfully addresses the challenges of higher education in today’s environment,” she said in a press-release.

Marbach, who is the current provost and vice president for academic affairs at La Salle University in Philadelphia, will begin work at the university on July 1.
