A director of a notable Newark-based law firm was appointed general counsel of the Senate Democratic Majority Office.Fruqan Mouzon of Gibbons P.C., who was named to the role by New Jersey Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-West Deptford), will serve as the chief legal adviser to the Senate office.
Mouzon previously served as an assistant counsel to Gov. Jon Corzine from 2006 through 2008. He advised Corzine on legislation involving consumer affairs, education and civil rights, in addition to serving as the Governor’s designee on the State House Commission.
He entered the private sector after that appointment, and has focused his practice at Gibbons on the areas of business and commercial litigation, government affairs and white collar criminal defense.
Numerous accolades have drawn attention to his work in the legal arena, including the New Jersey Law Journal naming him to its “40 Under 40” list of leading attorneys.
“Fruqan is a talented lawyer with a very bright future,” Patrick C. Dunican Jr., chairman and managing director of the firm, said in a prepared statement. “He will certainly bring the same passion and dedication that we witness every day to his new team in the Senate Democratic Majority Office.”
Mouzon earned his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law; he has remained an adjunct professor at that school since 2004.
