Businesses with up to 50 employees that can demonstrate physical damage suffered from the storm can receive grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 from the NJEDA.

The Garden State's employment level declined 6.3% since 2019, according to Pew Charitable Trusts, placing it ahead of only Rhode Island, California, Hawaii and Nevada.

According to the governor, continuing the payments would have cost the state $314 million per week and up to $1 billion each month.

The interim assistance will provide grants up to $5,000 to storm-impacted businesses/nonprofits with up to 50 employees.

The increases are meant to refill the state’s unemployment trust fund, which was drained over the last year-and-a-half amid record-high joblessness and business closures stemming from the pandemic.

“New York City’s proposed congestion tax would endanger the economic recovery of the New York metropolitan region, add[ing] further expense to the already sky-high cost of commuting into New York City,” U.S. Rep. Josh Gottheimer wrote.

To continue to pay would cost the state hundreds of millions of dollars: $314 million a week, and up to $1 billion a month.

Current Cabinet Secretary Noreen Giblin will provide oversight of the department and serve as the governor's representative to New Jersey’s various state agencies.

A plan submitted Aug. 27 to the Federal Transit Administration by the Gateway Development Corp., which is overseeing the construction, noted a $700 million year-over-year increase for the project, from $11.6 billion in 2020 to $12.3 billion now.

One of the most intensely debated unemployment benefits - the $300 weekly bonus from the federal government - is set to expire soon, along with a handful of other benefits. Business owners and conservative lawmakers argue that the lapse in added money could alleviate labor shortages, especially in the restaurant industry.

“At a time when New Jersey’s hospitals, doctors and nurses are still on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, the injection of millions of dollars in annual federal funding into our hospitals will help them attract and retain the best talent as well continue to provide high-quality care for New Jerseyans,” U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez said.

Construction of the Transitway, a rail loop between Secaucus Junction and the Meadowlands Sports and Entertainment Complex, would stretch 7 miles and take into account things such as utlizing zero-emissions vehicles.
