The New Jersey Economic Development Authority is moving ahead with pre-registration for businesses to apply for some of the $85 million in COVID-19 monetary relief targeted at small businesses and nonprofits, with applications set to formally open at the start of May.

In March 2020, the state brought in $1.2 billion from tax revenue, compared to nearly $1.7 billion last month. New Jersey draws its money from three main sources: sales, income and corporate business taxes.

The city has committed $6 million to preserve the historic pumphouse and fully fund renovations for complete public access to the 14-acre site, which dates back approximately 150 years.

The funding will allow the CDC and jurisdictional health departments to conduct, expand and improve activities to sequence, genome and identify mutations.

“The Annual Homelessness Assessment Report to Congress shows that there were 9,662 homeless New Jerseyans before the pandemic, a number that has the potential to increase," said HUD Newark Field Office Director Justin Scheid.

The initiative from the New Jersey Business Action Center will cover topics including financial resources, technical assistance, tips for obtaining government contracts, COVID-19 safety protocols and resources for nonprofits.

For the week ending April 10, there were 10,743 people in the state who filed for unemployment; according to the U.S. Department of Labor, 19,875 people filed claims the week prior.
