The 23 Gristedes stores brings Allegiance’s store count to 120, an increase of nearly 24 percent.

As a member of Allegiance, Gristedes now has access to Allegiance’s marketing, advertising, technological and operational support, and a full line of private label products.

“Helping businesses serve local customers has been at the heart of our operation since our inception. The addition of Gristedes to the Allegiance Retail Services family of cooperative grocers further supports our intelligent growth strategy,” Allegiance COO and President John Derderian said in a prepared statement.

Gristedes is owned by New York-based Red Apple Group and has been in operation since 1888. It joins such stores as Foodtown, Freshtown, Frescho, D’Agostino, LaBella Marketplace, Brooklyn Harvest, Market Fresh and Big Deal Food Market as Allegiance members.
