The New Jersey Utilities Association (NJUA) named Rich Henning as president and chief executive officer of the investor-owned trade association.
Henning, whose appointment was effective Jan. 3, brings more than 34 years of utility experience in communications, marketing and government relations to the role, NJUA said in a Jan. 9 press release.
Prior to stepping into the role, Henning was senior vice president at Veolia North America. His background also includes positions at General Electric, Panasonic and The Record newspaper.
At NJUA, Henning succeeds Tom Churchelow, according to an association spokesperson.
In a statement, Mark Kahrer, NJUA chairman and senior vice president of New Jersey Natural Gas Co., said Henning’s appointment followed “a rigorous selection process” and that he looks forward “to seeing him take the organization forward at a time when New Jersey utilities have built strong momentum with state leaders to shape a new future.”
“During the past few years as an executive board member for NJUA, Rich has demonstrated real commitment to NJUA’s mission, our customers, and our colleagues. He is a proven leader with tremendous passion and I am confident in his ability to guide the organization, to drive innovation, and to shape a collaborative and inclusive culture for our staff and our members,” added Kahrer.
Founded in 1915, NJUA is a statewide trade association for investor-owned utilities that provide essential water, wastewater, electric, natural gas and telecommunication services to residents and businesses in New Jersey.
Its membership consists of 13 utility companies that serve nearly 7 million residential customers, as well as 1 million business and industrial entities, across the state.
