Henry Rowan, philanthropist and engineer, has donated $15 million to Rowan University’s college of engineering, the college’s president, Ali Houshmand, announced Wednesday. The school will now be known as the Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering.
“This new, remarkable gift will ensure our continued ability to deliver a world-class engineering education,” Houshmand said in a news release. “As we work to carry on the legacy of Mr. Rowan, we can think of no more appropriate and permanent tribute than a College of Engineering that bears his name and celebrates the lasting impact his generosity continues to have on students and on our region.”
The money will allow the university to further support its growing engineering program.
This most recent donation is the second-largest in the university’s history. In1992, Rowan and his wife, Betty, donated $100 million to what was then Glassboro State College, which was renamed in their honor.
