Following revised American Heart Association guidelines released earlier in 2018 that extended the treatment window for stroke patients to 24 hours, Hackensack University Medical Center and Jersey Shore University Medical Center are poised to double the number of patients eligible for treatment and quadruple the window for treatment eligibility, according to data sighted by HMH.

“Time is critical when treating stroke patients. RAPID technology will help our … members improve outcomes and widen the window for more stroke patients,” Ihor Sawczuk, president of Hackensack University Medical Center and Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital, said in a release.

For patients that have experienced a stroke or exhibit stroke-like symptoms, RAPID processes images from CT scans and color codes the images highlighting areas of the brain that can be saved while delivering reconstructed images to physicians in minutes.

JFK Medical Center also employs RAPID and was one of the first in the state to utilize the technology for a 2016 clinical trial.
