Jersey Central Power & Light has completed the final phase of a $48 million, 11.5-mile transmission line project to enhance utility reliability in Mercer, Middlesex and Monmouth counties. The most-recent completed work includes construction of a new 8-mile, 115-kilovolt transmission line that spans between a Hightstown substation and a transmission structure in Manalapan along State Highway 33.
“This vital infrastructure improvement could not have been successfully constructed without the cooperation of multiple municipal, county and state officials and agencies,” Tony Hurley, JCP&L vice president of Operations, said. “This combined effort helped complete the project in a timely and efficient manner to better serve customers in central New Jersey.”
The project installed over 200 utility poles, five steel monopoles and over 174,000 feet of wire. The Hightstown substation received a new transformer and upgraded its circuit breaker.
The completed project will enhance electrical service to approximately 34,000 customers in East Windsor, Englishtown, Hightstown, Manalapan, Millstone and Monroe.
