Krystal Restaurants has operated in the Southeast for 99 years, but all that’s about to change.
On Dec. 13, Jersey-born former wide receiver for the New York Giants, Victor Cruz, announced he’ll team up with Krystal and build up to five restaurants in the New Jersey area by the end of 2023.
The first branded Victor Cruz’s Krystal location will debut in Paterson – Cruz’s hometown. The eateries will be decked out with memorabilia from Cruz’s football career and built in the new-style prototype the regional fast food restaurant — known for its small, square hamburgers — introduced earlier in 2021.
The collaborators will also work together on a line of merchandise inspired by Cruz that will be available online and in restaurants.
“We are thrilled to be working with Victor Cruz; quite simply, he is a winner,” said Thomas Stager, CEO of Krystal Restaurants LLC. “Mr. Cruz is exactly the kind of partner we want to help us expand our brand into new communities and to introduce new audiences to Krystal.”
Cruz had a seven-year career in the National Football League, perhaps most notably with the New York Giants, where he and the team took home a victory in Super Bowl XLVI.
According to an announcement about the new restaurants, Cruz’s decision to partner with Atlanta-based Krystal is born from a love of its food, and to bring that comfort food north.
“From the moment you try a Krystal, you know there’s nothing else like it,” Cruz said. “And once you eat it, you just crave it. They’ve done it for generations and I’m excited to partner with the Krystal team and make it a winning combination.”
Krystal operates nearly 300 restaurants in 10 states.
