Morristown-based engineering and consulting firm Louis Berger announced Wednesday that it has broken ground on the Satala power plant in Pago Pago, America Samoa.Louis Berger has been contracted for the design and construction of the plant, with power generation and facility deals valued at a combined $48 million. The America Samoa Power Authority awarded the deal and joined Louis Berger in the groundbreaking on Sept. 12.
Louis Berger’s work will help the plant restore capacity lost during a 2009 tsunami as part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s restoration plan. The construction is expected to be completed in January 2016, with commissioning and turnover scheduled for spring of that year.
