Manufacturing Day awards honors to companies and individuals

The New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program gave awards to numerous companies Friday at the Marigold in Somerset as part of Manufacturing Day.

The New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program gave awards to numerous companies Friday at the Marigold in Somerset as part of Manufacturing Day.

The Manufacturer of the Year in the category of businesses that employ fewer than 50 people is WEXCO Industries, a Pine Brook-based business that manufacturers windshield wipers.

The Barrington-based Edmund Optics won in the category of Business of the Year for companies that employ 51 to 250 employees.

 

South Hackensack-based Naturex won in the category of Business of the Year for companies that employ at least 251 people.

Designs by Kait & Mike won in the category of startup company. Owned by Kaitlyn Den Hollander and Michael Prol, the company produces wooden crates.

Parts Life Inc. won in the category of Innovator of the Year. CEO Sam Thevanayagam runs the defense contractor company based in Morristown.

Tropical Cheese Industries Executive Rafael Mendez won the Raymond Hopp Award for Excellence. The Perth Amboy-based company produces dairy products for the Latino community.

The following individuals were honored for their contributions to manufacturing in New Jersey: Assemblyman Andrew Zwicker, D-16th District; Assemblyman Anthony Bucco, R-25th District; Robert Gordon from the Board of Public Utilities; Melanie Willoughby, executive director of the New Jersey Business Action Center; Sen. Steven Oroho, R-24th Distrcit; and Gale Tenen Spak, associate vice president for continuing and distance education at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.
