Newark law firm McCarter & English experienced a data breach recently.
The New Jersey Law Journal first reported on the incident on April 19.
In an emailed statement to NJBIZ, McCarter & English’s executive committee confirmed that the firm “recently became aware of a network security incident that temporarily impacted the availability of our computer systems. Upon discovering the incident, we took proactive measures to contain the incident and initiated an investigation.”
Law enforcement was also notified, the executive committee said.
The statement went on to say that the firm was “able to restore our key systems in short order, including access to email. Our ability to perform services to our clients was not significantly impacted.”
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the firm had no additional information to share by 1:45 p.m. on April 20.
