McCarthy & Co. more than doubles office space, staff in Q4

McCarthy & Co. PC is ending 2022 on a big note: expanding its team and moving into a new office in Tinton Falls to accommodate its growth.

In addition to a new hire, McCarthy & Co. announced its acquisition of accounting firm Frank Leonard & Associates LLC last week. To house the growing accounting and advisory firm, construction is underway on a new 6,600-square-foot office space.

McCarthy & Co. said it expects to move into its new digs by mid-December. At more than double that of its current suite, the fully branded and renovated office is located in the same building that currently houses the firm at One Hovchild Blvd., 4000 Route 66. The office will accommodate 19 staff members — nearly three times that of its 2017 headcount for N.J. team members.

Frank Leonard & Associates merged into McCarthy & Co. effective Nov. 1, according to the firm. Based in Forked River, the company has provided accounting and advisory services to transportation industry clients, emphasizing trucking and bus companies, for more than four decades.

“I’ve worked with clients in the trucking and transportation segment for my entire career and understand the financial, risk, operational, capital and tax issues unique to transportation,” said Frank Leonard, who joins McCarthy as partner. “I’m excited to be joining the McCarthy team, where I know my clients will receive exceptional client services and where I can continue to grow my book of business.”

Ken Kang and Jennifer Leonard also join McCarthy from Frank Leonard & Associates. Kang is a client accounting services associate, an arm of the practice focused on providing businesses with a comprehensive suite of outsourced accounting solutions, while Jennifer Leonard is an administrative assistant.

Rounding out the new group is John Blake, formerly of Klatzkin, who joined McCarthy as a tax partner Nov. 7, bringing 18 years of tax and accounting experience. According to McCarthy & Co., Blake will serve as point-of-contact for all former Frank Leonard & Associate clients. Beyond tax and accounting work, he’ll also focus on tax-related business development, thought leadership, enhancing tax offerings, and providing additional leadership to the tax team, according to the firm.
