Meadowlands Commission to work with state DEP

//July 24, 2009

NULLThe New Jersey Meadowlands Commission announced last week that it plans to work with the state Department of Environmental Protection to share the permitting process for certain development applications within the Meadowlands District.

Under the proposal, NJMC engineers would be responsible for preliminary technical and administrative reviews for waterfront development and flood hazard area permits, the commission said. Property owners could consequently receive their permits sooner, and begin work on their projects more quickly than in the past, the commission said.

NJMC said its participation in the permit review process would be limited to only the preliminary technical and administrative aspects of applications — DEP will handle all environmental reviews and final review of the commission’s assessment of the technical and administrative sections of applications. No standards or requirements for permit compliance would change in the sharing of the permitting process, the commission said.
