U.S. Sens. Bob Menendez and Cory Booker, both Democrats, announced on Wednesday the awarding of $4,959,063 in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support North Hudson Community Action Corp., a Federally Qualified Health Center with locations in Bergen, Passaic and Hudson counties.
“For decades, North Hudson Community Action Corp. has been committed to providing high-quality and affordable health care services to their patients,” said Menendez, a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee which sets national health policy. “From primary and preventive care, to dental and reproductive health, NHCAC ensures that the health care needs of the families they serve are met. This funding will allow them to continue their mission of providing exceptional health care services to hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans.”
“Far too many communities in New Jersey face great obstacles when seeking adequate health care,” said Booker. “This crucial federal funding ensures community health centers, like North Hudson Community Action Corporation, have the resources needed to continue to provide necessary health care services to thousands of New Jerseyans.”
With locations in Englewood, Garfield, Hackensack, Harrison, Jersey City, North Bergen, Passaic, Union City and West New York, NHCAC provides comprehensive health care and social services including primary and dental care, early childhood education programs and affordable prescription drugs.
Joan Quigley, president and chief executive officer of NHCAC said that there were a quarter of a million visits last year to NHCAC. “And we would not have been able to keep up with the high demand if it were not for funding like this,” he said.
“I know how hard it is to get money from Washington these days, but I am so thankful for the advocacy of Sens. Menendez and Booker. This funding will allow us to continue serving communities across North Jersey,” she said.
In New Jersey, 24 community health centers operate 135 sites, providing preventive and primary health care services to 537,960 New Jerseyans.
Earlier this year, Menendez joined colleagues in introducing legislation to bolster Community Health Centers and expand access to vital health care services for hundreds of thousands of New Jerseyans.
