Millennium Cell, Inc. of Eatontown (Nasdaq: MCAL) and Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies of Singapore said today they have completed the pre-production version of their portable power generator.

Called HydroPak, the product combines Horizon’s fuel cells with Millennium Cell’s “Hydrogen on Demand” storage technology. The product’s retail price will be $400, and disposable cartridges will sell for $20 apiece, according to the companies.

HydroPak is described as “a high-energy alternative” to lead acid battery packs and portable power generators, and packs enough energy to power an average computer notebook eight to 10 times. The companies claimed their product is quieter, lighter and smaller than conventional generators and has no harmful emissions.

Millennium Cell’s share jumped 24 percent to 41 cents in early trading.
