The board of trustees at Montclair State University announced Friday approval for the creation of a new school, the School of Communications and Media, which will be part of the College of Arts.

The board of trustees at Montclair State University announced Friday approval for the creation of a new school, the School of Communications and Media, which will be part of the College of Arts.

The new school, which will offer interdisciplinary journalism courses and focus on new media technology, is being created to enhance student preparation for careers in public communications fields.

The creation of the school follows a recent announcement that Montclair State will serve as host for the NJTV news division, including the station’s nightly news program, NJ Today.

“This initiative underscores the university’s commitment to aligning our programs with evolving critical work force needs in the state and beyond,” said school president Susan A. Cole in the announcement.

The School of Communications and Media is expected to launch in the Fall 2012 semester. Bachelor of Arts degrees will be offered in communication studies, television, and digital media and communications and media arts.
