North American Power Partners, a Moorestown-based energy service company, has signed a three-year agreement with the Southern California Public Power Authority to design and provide demand response programs to its members, according to a news release.Demand response is the temporary reduction of electrical usage by a customer for economic or emergency reasons. Demand response programs are designed to ease load on the electric grid during times of high prices, peak demand or supply shortfalls.

“We look forward to working with (Southern California’s) membership to enhance their energy programs with environmentally friendly, cost-effective solutions,” North American Power Partners CEO Laurie Wiegand-Jackson said in a statement.

The SCPPA is a joint powers authority consisting of 11 municipal utilities and one irrigation district in southern California. Authority members deliver electricity to about 2 million customers, including those in Los Angeles, Anaheim and Pasadena.

This agreement follows North American Power Partners’ announcement of a new contract with Southern California Edison that began Feb. 1. The two entities have been working together since 2007.
